Our second Friday ‘Summer Style with Friends’ post, features Lizette Castaneda, an extremely creative, passionate, kind and strong woman, who not only rocks it career-wise as a woman in sports, style-wise rocks it just the same! Working as a Features Producer for ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut, growing up in California, and frequent trips down to New York City, she often adds elements of color (CA), edge (NYC) and blends it all together flawlessly to create an entire look. She’s always been the go-to-girl when you can’t find anything in your own closet – colors, patterns, sassy, flare –  she can pretty much rock any look and make it look great. Her creative nature has given her the ability to take a $20 top, jean shorts she cut herself, and piece it with a bold accessory and cute heel to make a $100 outfits look like $400. Multi-talented and reaching high success in many facets in life, she’s is definitely one to look to for advice in career, sports, fashion, friends and love!
“I would wear this in California for coffee shop chat with girlfriends or to hang out at the beach bars in Santa Cruz. While visiting my girls in New York, this is perfect for brunch with the gang after a fun night out!” – Lizette Castaneda
It’s in the midst of Summer. The sun is out, jean shorts are a staple and ice coffee is flowing! Remember to get outside, walk in the wildernest and lay by the pool with your girlfrinds. We only have a couple more months! Man, it’s gone quick hasn’t it?
This is one of my favorite songs in a really long time. Sad to say they played a few free shows in LA the last couple months, and now are off to New York. Catch them at SUMMER STAGE August 1st.

Amazing, don’t you think? Her voice is beautiful and the reviews are on point when they say it’s very ‘Disney’ like, but for adults. And a free download HERE. Enjoy!
I came across this shot from a story about photographer Mario Epanya, whose idea of representing diversity among the fashion community by staring Vouge Africa was turned down by Conde Nast. Mario Epanya work is beautiful, and as you can see here. The shots of Vouge Africa covers were to present the idea to begin the magazine which would represent Africa, Brazil, West Indies and beyond.
‘I remember seeing the very first Vogue Africa fictitious cover and thinking how awesome it would be if we could have one big magazine displaying in all fairness African diversity, through its beauty and its talent. As the covers multiplied, people started wondering if the magazine really existed, obviously excited about the idea . From there it all went really fast, blogs, popular websites all emitted the hypothesis of a VOGUE Africa,’ says Absatou Ndiaye (facebook)
The idea was rejected because they said there were enough readers to make it possible. Whether true or not, it’s a wonderful reminder to us all not to succumb to the notion of beauty that the media’s plants deeply ingrained in our brains. Beauty, truly, is brought from within. While clothes, makeup, style and trends, do sometimes make it possible for that beauty to shine, the beauty is not there beyond a photo without us truly loving ourselves.
Alexander Wang’s 2011 Resort Collection – Inspired By Mom
Alexander Wang’s Resort Collection of shoes shows old and new, but remaining true to the trends we are seeing now: wedges, boots w/ a wedge heel, peep toes and cut-outs. You could have probably guessed, wedes are not going anywhere for a while, and I’m not complaining. They’re just too easy to walk in.
Not sure where the mom inspiration part kicks in, but I respect any mom who rocks these.

Last week I did a post about print trends. Of course fashion is not stoping there, not with the complexity of layers that are involved these days with artists on every platform. While simplicity can be great, complexity can be as great, or even greater (WHEN DONE RIGHT.) Here, these to me are all done very well and beautifully styled with the correct necklaces, bracelets, and hair pieces. Since we’re in summer, each picture involves some floral, then mixed with another pattern. The key here is to tie the patterns together with one similar color, or color town: top right (nude in both), Top middle (yellow tones), bottom left (blue), bottom right (green), and the middle picture (red tones).
I think this look is done best when done pretty, so don’t be afraid to put on some heels and lips.
