Photo Thursdays: Vouge Africa Turned Down By Conde Nast

Such beauty. So fashionable. A gorgeous cover.

I came across this shot from a story about photographer Mario Epanya, whose idea of representing diversity among the fashion community by staring Vouge Africa was turned down by Conde Nast. Mario Epanya work is beautiful, and as you can see here. The shots of Vouge Africa covers were to present the idea to begin the magazine which would represent Africa, Brazil, West Indies and beyond.

‘I remember seeing the very first Vogue Africa fictitious cover and thinking how awesome it would be if we could have one big magazine displaying in all fairness African diversity, through its beauty and its talent. As the covers multiplied, people started wondering if the magazine really existed, obviously excited about the idea . From there it all went really fast, blogs, popular websites all emitted the hypothesis of a VOGUE Africa,’ says Absatou Ndiaye (facebook)

The idea was rejected because they said there were enough readers to make it possible. Whether true or not, it’s a wonderful reminder to us all not to succumb to the notion of beauty that the media’s plants deeply ingrained in our brains. Beauty, truly, is brought from within. While clothes, makeup, style and trends, do sometimes make it possible for that beauty to shine, the beauty is not there beyond a photo without us truly loving ourselves.

Heels, Straps, Leather – Accesories Inspired By Mom

Alexander Wang’s 2011 Resort Collection – Inspired By Mom

Alexander Wang’s Resort Collection of shoes shows old and new, but remaining true to the trends we are seeing now: wedges, boots w/ a wedge heel, peep toes and cut-outs. You could have probably guessed, wedes are not going anywhere for a while, and I’m not complaining. They’re just too easy to walk in.

Not sure where the mom inspiration part kicks in, but I respect any mom who rocks these.
