{The Emmys Fashion Review}

Was I the only one who was let down with the toned-down look at this event? Katie Holmes and Gwyneth Paltrow decided to not do their hair and Kelly Cuoco decided not to wear makeup.

My favorite female looks:

Red was definitely the color of the night but, of the many looks (I counted 10), Kerry Washington‘s cherry red strapless gown with silk tuille skirt by Zuhair Murad won the ROJA prize of the night.

Zooey Deschanel had the CUTEST outfit of the night. Cotton candy pick Monique Lhuillier gown with red belt and pockets. The eyeliner and teased hair make her the darling of the night.

Maria Bello was my favorite – the one shoulder design by Kaufman Franco was so flattering on the hips and it Ms. Bello kept it simple with tousled hair and jewel rimmed eyes. GLAMOUR was delivered and Im glad she got my memo.

Runners Up: Martha Plimpton in a body-conscious cranberry sequined Zac Posen gown and I was happily surprised!

My least favorite female ensemble was Laura Linney. This is an awards show not a luncheon.

My favorite male looks:
Jim Parsons and his adorable 3 piece, one button velvet tux by Z. Zegna – he takes the male prize for just being cute :) Zegna makes the best suits and to make a velvet tux look good, you gotta be great.

My jaw dropped when Scott Caan came out to present an award. He has the chisled facial features and the matinee idol rugged shape – he cleans up VERY well.

Best Cast Ensemble Ensemble:

The men of Entourage won for best dressed cast. Hands down.

{Ombre! At The Lovely Roman Salon}

I’ve been admiring the two-toned locks on Rachel Bilson, Drew Barrymore, and countless others who have tried out the Ombre trend (FULL POST HERE). Ombre Hair looks like it’s here to stay, but don’t expect to see too many drastic two-toned hair colors… think more natural, gradually becoming a little darker for Fall. And who doesn’t love a hair style that’s easy maintanince?

The Román Salon is a full service salon located in the heart of West Hollywood, is first and foremost, gorgeous! I already felt special from their ubber chic patio out back. I’m thinking of going back between visits just to kick back and relax, so lovely!

My stylist Traci is known for her expertise in hair color and extensions. The goal was to first go Ombre, to add depth without going too dark. Also, to stay natural but without losing too much of my blonde. Yep, I am that customer, many requests. The overall result was PERFECTION. If you are looking for hair inspiration, check out Traci’s blog HERE

A LITTLE ADDED BONUS

AFTER

Traci was a doll. She took her time with me, is extremely personable and has been doing hair forever. Contact Traci Henningsen at the Roman Salon for your next visit!

{Ombre For Fall!}

Ombre is a French term meaning “two toned”. Ombre hair is the look you get when you normally color your hair but do not go for regular touch ups. This is what naturally happens to kids during the summer months when their hair gets lighter from the sun and then fall and winter come along, leaving the kids with two toned hair. Lighter on the ends and darker at the roots. Having this technique done on your hair, is being happy and proud of your natural hair color. To sum Ombre up, I think it was Sarah Jessica Parker who coined the phase “Poverty Roots”. (extrodinary hair)

What’s great about this look is you will not be going to the hair dresser so often for touch ups. You can do extreme or a more natural look, you decide. The trend has been around for a good year as it rose to popularity back in 2010. Most hair stylist are qualified, or you can use mine…check back next week for before and after pictures!

{Backstage Pass | An Intimate Gathering At The Soho House With Barneys + Francois NARS}

DSC_2128

“Use your instinct in fashion and follow what you love.  Keep your inspiration at a high light. Really believe in what you do” ~Francois NARS, June 24th 2011

Last Friday, we were invited to an intimate gathering for a Q&A with chic Barneys’ Fashion Director Amanda Brooks and Francois NARS. To say I walked away inspired, would be an understatement. Francois NARS is not just a creative genius but sweet, gracious and NORMAL. His interests were never to be famous, which is very clear.

COVER FOR FRANCOIS NARS’ NEW BOOK: MAKE UP YOUR MIND: EXPRESS YOURSELF

We gathered in the penthouse at The Soho House, West Hollywood, with views looking all over the city of Los Angeles, in total a group of 25/30 bloggers and media. We sipped on ginger/blueberry infused proscesco, as we listened attentively to Francois NARS answer all our behind the scenes questions.

Amanda Brooks has the choice of all the best makeup lines at her fingertips and she mentioned she ONLY wears NARS lipstick in matte. She spoke of the NARS being the leading collection for Barneys in that they find the absolute perfect color. Francois adds, “To find truly the perfect color, you have to be passionate, which I am. You have to stay very open. I can get inspired by many different things.”  He continued, “I love color always. Although I really am a black & white person as well. I can find inspiration for color anywhere. It comes very natural for me. In a garden or nature…”

To continue on the topic of color, Amanda herself is not big on trend colors. Grey nail polish she would usually never consider, until of course she sees NARS version. NARS finds the most perfect pigment of color.  ”It has to be the right depth, the right balance” Francois Nars adds, “Grey nail polish is not the perfect color, so you really have to perfect it.” He continues on to say that not ever color is meant for every person, “Don’t force color. You should be instantly attracted to it.”

One of my favorite things about NARS is the genius names he uses for the tittles of his products. He loves to travel and said he has used the names of trains all over the world. The infamous still popular Orgasam blush is in almost every girl’s makeup case.  A few others creative names from his Summer collection include, Douceur, Kismet, Ecume, Taj Mahal, Sex Appeal, and Exotic Dance. He said the names add a touch of romanticism.

One guest asked his about regime for staying youthful and vibrant looking (he’s in his early 50s by the way – I know, we couldn’t believe it either!)  Francois explains, “I love to laugh. I try to stay away from people who don’t laugh. I don’t smoke, I drink on occasion, I love wine, but I try to eat all organic. I also drink chlorophyll and wheat grass everyday. I noticed that when I stop doing that, my skin doesn’t look good. Overall, I think just being happy really helps. And of course, lots of water”

Francois revealed he will be collaborating with the Andy Warhol Foundation in the near future. He believes makeup is closely related to film by gathering inspiration from old movies, old hollywood, very iconic and creative times.

He was kind, genuine and after hearing him speak we all fell in love with him/NARS even more.  We loved having the chance to hear such a creative genius give us his behind the scenes secrets and we walked away with a gift bag from NARS’ Fall 2011 collection. Amanda Brooks said she expects lots of plums, golds and saffron this Fall. We received a matte pencil in a deep plum Train Bleu Velvet that I can’t wait to try, along with the ever popular Gery Nail polish these days, in Galion. Many thanks to Barneys for putting this together! xxx

{Prairie Girl}

two

Such a gorgeous evening in the hood. You should of seen the views, and so peaceful. After viewing Vanessa Bruno’s Pre-Collection styling last year, who embodied a complete peasant feel, I was inspired to get in on the fun. Never having worn my hair like this, go easy please, I attempted to create the prairie look with the cross braids headband. The outfit came after the braids, indeed.

I’ve worn my maxi skirt from  a  lot over the past few months and spent only $20. I usually dress up maxi with my black leather jacket and black booties, but I also try to play off the neutral tones like today. I’m transpiring a BIG LOVE feel, but of course in a cute fashion sort of way.

Also, of course have to pay tribute to the wedges. I climbed that crazy hill you see above, and those babies didn’t let me fall. Charles David always makes the most comfortable shoes.

Hope you all enjoy the first day of Summer. It’s 8:19pm and still light out, love it! xx
