FASHION FOR LESS

{Trending for Spring | Asymmetrical Length}

Trending Asymetrical

Asymmetrical cuts have made their way into almost every store this season. They’re funky, chic and give demension to your everyday wardrobe. Rebecca Taylor, Alfred Angelo and DKNY were just a few of the designers who featured asymmetry in their collections. Above are a few great options for ThreadScene. My favorite is the black sheer, only $38 dollars and goes with everything!

1 – Polka Dot Chrisma Skirt – $36
2 – Scarlett Letter Dress (similar option)
3 – Green Skirt – $83
4 – Wheeling and Dealing Maxi Cardigan – $40
5 – Asymmetrical Black – $38

A couple other cute ones that didn’t make the collage! HERE

{RAEN Optics | Shades All Year Round}

Saturday morning at Coffee Bean with my babe, my dog and my RAEN shades. RAEN Optics is an independent, classics driven brand, aimed at bringing quality and authenticity to the boutique eyewear market. Based out of Encinitas, these guys know quality, design and fashion.

I’ve been wearing their cat frames since 2011. The Breslin breathes new life into a feminine classic. Everyday shades that offer a touch of fashion, quality and and UV protected lenses. This tart little frame channels apparitions of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe with a cat eye angled brow. Flared arms and crescent metal temple detailing grant every girl an effervescent balance of sophistication and sass.

Buy there HERE for an amazing price of  $110.00 or check out all the other amazing styles they have to offer. Cheers, to R A E N!  xx

{ New Online Boutique Offers Fashion + High Style + Moderate Price | Collectivehabit.com }

Collective Habit is a new online store launching November 7th out of San Diego. I love the concept as the owner explains she couldn’t afford what she LOVED so she ended up buying mediocure things to fill her wardrobe. Can you relate? Uh, yeah! This online shop is supposed to solve that problem with amazing stylish pieces all ranging from $25 to 200. And, even better, they are offering Style Wax Poetic readers 15% for the first week – yes, please!

The promo code for 15% off the first week (Nov. 7 -14th) is STYLEWAX15

Collective Habit Owner Kimberly Lim

I had the chance to interview Kimberly Lim, the owner of Collective Habbit, and find out a little more about the store, along with a few sneak peak of her favorite pieces.

SWP: Why did you start the store?
First off I should say that I totally agree with you that fashion is an artistic expression… I think it’s one of the most expressive art forms out there. I never had a burning desire to start a business, but almost a year ago I was sitting in my closet full of clothing racks and shoes, and I realized that I was totally uninspired by what I was looking at. I felt like the lack of options here in SD and the fact that I couldn’t afford a lot of what I liked online was getting in the way of me expressing myself to the fullest –instead of investing in pieces I really loved, over the years I had built a collection that was just mediocre—and I found that to be totally unacceptable. I knew there were probably a thousand other girls who were in the same predicament … so I decided to do my own thing.

Matiko Madison Wedge Boot $220

SWP: What’s your background before this?
I studied product development at FIDM and my BA is in literature and writing. I have a background in e-commerce, fashion writing, graphic design, and styling. So the e-commerce thing was a natural move, once I made up my mind to open a store.

SWP: Where did you shop before this?
At the mothership, LF. And I love me some Zara and good basics from American Apparel. I also did my share of online shopping… there are some really great sites out there, but the problem with a lot of online stores is that either I can’t afford the pieces or the quality is crap.

Belle Style Triangle Tassle Necklace $89

SWP: What’s your personal style?
It’s sophisticated and comfortable with an edge. I really love oversized pieces that are simple, beautiful, and well-made. I hate fuss and messy layers –for me getting dressed involves pulling on a big chunky knit and something skinny on the bottom, and adding super high heels or wedges. And I can’t say enough about menswear influences –button-downs, oxfords, rolled trousers… I love a great blazer.

SWP: What are some of the things that excite you about Fall/Winter Trends.
I am soo excited for fall (always am, even though it hardly ever gets cold enough in SD to really pile on the heavier fabrics), there’s some really good stuff coming our way this season. I’m particularly excited about all the 70s glam—big fuzzy fur/faux jackets and vests, all the rich leather and sequins…

SWP: What are some of your favorite pieces coming into the store for the launch?
We have lots of amazing jewelry pieces and killer shoes for the launch, and some really great apparel too. Some of my favorite pieces are the Keiko Dress from Kucoon (nice feature, by the way!), the Madison wedge boot and the Sina oxford from Matiko, a beautiful, classic gray poncho from Yoon, and practically every piece of jewelry from Belle Style (some vintage, totally glam).

Yoon Osiris Poncho $185

SWP: Fav designers?
There are a lot of great contemporary designers coming out of Asia and Australia these days, but in terms of the well-known designers: Karl Lagerfeld (who can do no wrong and I love what he does for Chanel each season), Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang, Phoebe Philo’s Chloe, Elie Saab, Yigal Azrouël, Haider Ackermann… and I love me some Rachel Zoe.

{Vintage sale from some of L.A.’s tastemakers}

Vintage shopping is already fantastic, but what’s even more amazing, is to have your fashionable friends source it all for you, then sell it all at a great price. Think St. John, Bill Blass, and Gucci, all under $40!

I was invited to a vintage sale at Erin Weinger house, co-founder of Style Section LA.  Being in the know of some of the best vintage stores around, which she will not reveal, I was expecting some great finds. I walked in to an array of reds, yellow, oranges and tourqoise prints, and I knew then and there, this was going to be good  I walked out with 5 pieces for $75.

A turquoise dress with shoulder pads, a polka dot sleeveless button down top, an a-line plaid skirt and a long tribal maxi.

We ended the night at Little Doms to complete a perfect Thursday night.

Thanks Erin! xx

{The Best Picks Lauren Conrad & Louise Roe’s New Line For The Shopping Network}

It’s always a bit of a risk when a reality star turns designer. Working in fashion, we tend not too take them too seriously, unless they are themselves, a style icon. But with Lauren Conrad and Louise Roe, they’ve proven time and time again to have a classic style that the everyday LA girl could relate to.

Lauren Conrad’s new lookbook is the best we’ve seen so far from her, staying simple and beachy classic, like herself. We’ve crushed on Louise Roe since we first saw her in The City, I wouldn’t expect anything but a stellar line for her. Style Wax Poetic narrowed down the pieces, so you don’t have too…

Lauren Condrad – Channeling a California Vibe in everyway. You can’t take the Laguna Beach out of this girl. Lauren designs simple classic basics, similar to her own style, which is very smart being a new designer.

Louise Roe – Making her name first on the reality show, The City, then on CW’s Plain Jane, Louise clearly is anything but plain. She’s full of life and personality, super stylish, stunningly beautiful and smart! Her line is the same with rich colors and prints that are noticed. The pieces below are classic, such as the army green trench coat worn as a dress. Funky and tasteful at the same time.

{Fashion Photography Thursdays || Girl Crush On Poppy Delevigne}

Total girl crush on the adorable Poppy Delevigne. I love the styling here, pulled from Natalie Joos’ Tales of Endearnment. Poppy Delevigne, 25, and her sister Cara, are regular fixtures on the fashion circuit, both stunningly gorgeous and have chic style. Poppy has notched up campaigns for Anya Hindmarch, Mango and Burberry and is making he mark in the industry, and I am sure you can see why. She has eclectic taste and Natalie Joos writes she recently cast her in a short film by Fancesco Carrozzini for Imagine Fashion with Elisa Sednaoui, Paz de la Huerta and Zoe le Ber, stating “She was stunning.”

{New Wool Hat, Floral Kimono Top and A Maxi Skirt}

DSC_2513

I haven’t been doing outfit posts for a while….but I have some amazing new pieces that need to be pictured soon.

The post was inspired from a hat, which many of my posts are. I found my new wool hat at a garage sale on my street for $7 dollars. It’s not Fall yet, but I know I’ll be getting some use out of this hat soon. If you are looking for great accessory pieces for cheap, scope out garage sales in Los Angeles on the weekends. LA peeps seem to be collectors of great fashion and costume pieces, then they have too much and end up getting rid of a lot of it…I usually never leave a Saturday Garage sale day empty handed.

My top is one of my newest FAVS – how I love a silky floral patters, especially ones that have a little flow to them. I picked it up when I was asked to work at  a fashion event at a darling store in Venice you may know, Ecookie. They have some really great pieces and most pieces are under $100. They carry a good size amount of a LA based line that I had never heard of, EVERLY. Their pieces were really on trend and I ended up walking out the door with the floral kimono top (pictured), a long floral maxi skirt, and a maxi dress. All easy to wear, perfect Summer pieces. Working the event was well worth it!

Shoes – Sam Edelman ; Bag – Garage Sale (Hermes knock off .. I got ripped of but still like it); Skirt – Forever 21; Top – Everly; Sunglasses – RAEN Optics; Hat – Garage Sale
