Last Thursday, myself and some of my fellow blogger babes joined together at Robbins Brothers to check out the new Simon G collection. What girl doesn’t love diamonds?! We started with manicures, sipped some delicious sangria, then moved our way to check out the beautiful collection. I’m no diamond expert, but these were beautiful pieces and very affordable at the same time, which I know can be difficult to find.
We also got to hear from the host of the evening, Natasha Burton, sex and relationship columnist from Cosmopolitan magazine. After all of her years of writing about relationships, I wanted to know what is the most important dating tip that she can pass along. She divulged, “If you see signs in the beginning, make sure to address them right away. Girls often don’t speak up and let things slide and it’s very easy to set bad patterns, which can ultimately ruin the relationship later.”
Not only did we have such a great time eating, chatting and trying on rings, I also won the raffle as well and received this darling heart pendent. #LOVE
Calvin Rucker is the collaboration between fashion innovators Joie Rucker (founder of Joie) and longtime friend and fashion leader, Caroline Calvin (formerly SVP of Global Design at Levi Strauss & Co). What I love about this brand is not only the marriage of two amazing ascetics and brands we’ve fallen for, but also that this amazing brand is produced and made here in Los Angeles.
Merging a luxurious, sexy classicism with a rebel streak, the CALVIN RUCKER collection has a little something for everyone. I caught up with Calvin and Rucker to find out what they’re loving for the season and they’re LA go-tos.
SWP: What is it about denim that you love so much?
CR: We love denim for its simplicity and complexity. As one of our heroes, Yves Saint Laurent has said, “I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.”
SWP: After your many years of experience, what can you share with us about denim that maybe we wouldn’t know?
CR: It’s easier to button a fly from the bottom up- like on our LOVE ME Boyfriend Jean.
SWP: I love that you’re made and produced in LA. Do you think the fashion in Los Angeles has stepped up their game in the past 5-10 years?
CR: Yes! Los Angeles is not just a reference for t-shirt and jeans- it is becoming an incubator for design talent and we have established design houses like RODARTE and now we have Saint Laurent in our backyard.
SWP: Joie is one of my faves! Did you bring some elements from Joie to Calvin Rucker?
CR: Calvin Rucker is Casual Couture for the Creative Class- it is an elevated expression of our design experience and capabilities. In addressing the young designer market we are able to push the boundaries of fit, fabric, silhouette and details to another level.
SWP: Who is the Calvin Rucker girl?
CR: The Calvin Rucker girl is a chic, modern woman- the originator of the “creative class.” She has a unique sense of self and style that makes a captivating impression when she enters the room.
SWP: Tell me about your use of leather?
CR: Our use of leather is inspired by our concept of refined with the rough and tough with feminine.
SWP: What are your 3 go-to pieces this spring?
CR: That’s the easiest question of all!!
1. The oversized boyfriend jean in its super soft vintage hand finished treatment called Rock Salt
2. The Too Shy Shy Lace T
3. The Fame Bomber satin jacket
SWP: What’s a typical day in the life for you both?
CR: Usually we try and start the day with a dawn patrol surf session and then bust a move downtown.
SWP: Tell three tracks on your stereo?
CR: We’re channeling summertime mood so we are listening to Jimmy Cliff, Orchestra Aragon from Cuba and Joyce from Brazil.
SWP: 3 of your favorites in Los Angeles
CR: Nobu Malibu,, Witz End bar when Whitley Heights has a gig and Gratus boutique – opening soon in BH! those girls rock.

With this heat wave, dresses are sometimes the only way to go, but without the right style and design, a simple dress can be a little boring. Dresses from Forever21 and H&M can look wrinkly or the fit may not be right, as the quality and design isn’t the same as a designer dress. Investing in a good dress or two is definitely worth the splurge; you’ll feel better in it and you’ll have it for seasons to come. These 8 picks are from two of my favorite stores OTTE NYC and Net-A-Porter. Most are marked down as surprisingly, stores are already thinking about fall merchandise! From color blocking, to brights like Emerald green, and of course my favorite, all white, these dresses will be investments for years to come.
The post is about shopping YOUR closet. Just when I feel that I desperately need to go shopping (and I know you get that same urge), I remember, there’s a few pieces in that closet of mine that are getting pretty dusty and ready for a good wear. It’s truly silly to think sometimes just how many clothes most of us really do own. I wore this dress for many occasions back in the day: church, a wedding, gradations, and today, it’s still as beautiful. It’s literally over 6 year old, which means, it’s good design. Instead of dressing it up, I paired it with a jean jacket, a bright clutch and a beautiful head crown by Eddera Paris.
Dress: Max Azaria (similar here ); Jean Jacket: CURRENT/ELLIOT similar here or cheaper here; Clutch: Macys or similar super cute and on sale here; HeadCrown: Eddera Paris or similar here; Necklaces: H&M and Kelly Wearstler
What is it that makes white on white so good? It’s that clean crisp look, the airy feeling of summer and the chic look of white gone dangerous (black heels and a leather jean jacket!). Ohhh, I just love it but there’s a couple things you need to consider when wearing this look. One, make sure you have a little color. If your skin color is the same color as your shorts, you may want to try some self tanner. Two, make sure you whites match! Cream, off white and crisp white, don’t go together – sorry! Three, watch the coffee (tried and true). Id maybe drink the coffee before you get into the car before work this morning.
But the white on white look is soo good, you will be able to wear it all year long and seasons to come. It’s one of those looks that don’t go out of style, but is highlighted again and again, just because it’s THAT GOOD.
I’ve highlighted two looks above - both based off a crop top from Topshop! I’m loving the crop top trend at the moment and when done right, is just magical. Topshop is by far the best place to grab these babies for cheap. Keep it classy and chic for day as shown on the right. I love the chic rocker glam for night, so I’ve thrown in some studded booties and a leather/jean jacket. Shop it below and show me your fab ‘White on White’ look on Instagram!

“Every season is Resort at Clover Canyon,” said designer Rozae Nichols (Style.com)
Who is Clover Canyon? I keep hearing, seeing and drooling over these amazing designs.
I saw this collection and had to share – isn’t it amazing?! This collection was inspired by Cuba. I love the use of sporty pieces mixed with feminine silhouettes.
What I love ..
Designed and produced in Los Angeles – GO LA!
The collection reflects the eclectic, joyful spirit of California through vivid prints and streamlined silhouettes.
The look of Clover Canyon is jubilant; indeed it is!
These are clothes embarked on an endless voyage, from the tribal plains of Africa and the courts of ancient kings, through the annals of art history, and beyond.
Where to buy… Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Lane Crawford, and online retailers such as Net-a-Porter and Shopbop.
With more than 500 retail stores worldwide and over 200 in the U.S., BCBGMAXAZRIA GROUP has dominated women’s fashion retail. The husband-wife team has nearly perfected the sexy, body-hugging dress to the likes of celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and First Lady Michelle Obama. Lubov Azria is the woman behind it all—BCBGMAXAZRIA, Hervé Léger and more. She and husband Max Azria were awarded Honorary Doctorate degrees from The Academy of Art University on Friday, where we got to sit down with her to talk about fashion, technology and keeping things fresh with Max in the design room. Join us as we get to know the lovely, Lubov Azria.
SWP: How did you know fashion was your official artistic choice of expression?
LA: I didn’t, it was a journey. I originally started as a Ballerina in Ukraine. And then, growing older, that wasn’t the right path for me and I also loved art. I wanted to be an art professor. But then I realized it wasn’t very profitable and very competitive and my alternate was fashion.
SWP: What is the biggest piece of advice you are giving to young fashion designers?
LA: Follow your dreams. And never give up. That alone, will take you far.
SWP: What was the first article of clothing you and Max ever designed together?
LA: Oh gosh, hmm… I think it was a suit made out of stretch satin.
SWP: In your opinion, what is the most important thing for people to consider when dressing themselves?
LA: Dress to your body shape. I think many people don’t realize they might not look good in certain shapes. Wear clothes that give you more shape. Women should dress based on their body shape not based on trends.
SWP: You’ve dressed many famous celebrities, but who have you not styled/dressed yet that you’d like to?
LA: That’s a good question. I love musicians so I’d really like to dress Blondie.
SWP: From Hervé Léger to the Miley Cyrus collaboration for Wal-Mart, you’ve created created a broad spectrum of clothing lines. Why is it important for you to have such diverse cornerstones of fashion retail?
LA: I think it’s exciting. There’s an opportunity that comes your way and it’s really good to experiment with it and see where it takes you. You know, life is a journey not a destination. So I think it’s good to experience collaboration and communication with other designers.
SWP: Which of you had the idea of revamping Hervé Léger, you or Max?
LA: We were both really passionate about it, it was teamwork. It’s very unique and truly special and truly couture. It’s been an artists’ dream to work on that line.
SWP: Do you still have the same passion you had from Day 1? If so, what keeps you so passionate?
LA: I believe my purpose in life, is to make things better. I wake up each morning with only one thought, ‘how do I make it better?’ And that’s what drives me every single day. Improve, make it better, grow, learn, evolve, change inspire.
SWP: You’ve said you find inspiration everywhere in your travels. Have you found inspiration from San Francisco?
LA: Oh my gosh, absolutely. This is my first time truly able to enjoy the city and, wow, the interior design here is incredible. The old mixed with the new—it’s incredibly inspirational. I didn’t realize how amazing this city is. I think when people talked about San Francisco—now, I have a totally new perspective.
SWP: Being that you are in the Silicon Valley at the moment, has technology had an impact on your businesses?
LA: Yes, it’s changed everything. My favorite app is iAnnotate, I can’t live without my iPhone and I’m constantly on my iPad. I use Skype with my kids when we’re apart and I, just… can’t image being without technology. I see a huge difference from when we first started designing. Social media has been incredible and the whole blogging industry has been a fantastic revolution. These women have something to say, have impeccable sense of style, are great writers and great communicators. I’m obsessed with them.

Grab those boyfriend jeans, a pair of booties and cute blazer – the boyfriend is back. I forgot how great they were and how much I love the boyfriend style until I received my new jeans!
A month ago, I attended the NYDJ’s preview (I try to make it every season) and got a sneak peek of their Spring/Summer 2013 styles. Their collection ranged from floral prints, to mint jeans and amazing workwear pants, but I ended up walking away with a pair of boyfriend jeans. Today I’m wearing them with a fun tan bootie from Charles Jourdan, a polka dot blazer from Nordstrom Rack and and a top by All Saints. NYDJ is also doing some amazing tops this season that I’m loving. If you missed last year’s post, you can check it out here.
If you haven’t already, grab yourself a great pair of boyfriend jeans for the season. They’re lovely for the weekend and definitely appropriate for work paired with a heel and blazer.

Lately I’ve been obssessed with Rachel Zoe. She’s always chic, boho and looking fabulous while being comfortable. I found a part of her super wide leg floral pants and Loehmanns and new I’d get a lot of use out of them, especially for Spring 2013. It’s all about FLORALS! I wanted to add pop of color for daytime while still keeping it casual, so I added my go-to jean jacket which I adore. (Another steal from Loehamanns) I have been wearing it with almost everything – definitely a MUST HAVE for any girl’s closet. I use mine for dressing down any dress or outfit that I want to make a little more casual for day or weekend wear.
We love Rachel Zoe- I’ll be back with more ways to style these fun pants soon. Have a great rest of your weekend. XOXO SWP
