{I Love You, I Love You Not}

Loving this sweet little charm necklace from In God We Trust. Buy here at Bona Drag. If you haven’t discovered this store yet, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. They’re from Encinitas, which is a small little surf town in San Diego, that holds a dear place in my heart. They have great taste and carry unique pieces you don’t find everywhere.

If you’re feeling not so sweet, you can purchase this, instead! xxxxx

{Going Zany Over ManiaMania}

I may be late in the game on this one, but I now know why this brand immediately caught the attention from media. These pieces are hot and their styling is perfection. I adore the moody, over the top designs that capture attention.  A mix of chunky mixed metals, oversized stones and a vintage feel, these go well as a statement piece or stacked on one another. Gorgeous, hot and superb line! I’m crushing..

{Is it Summer Yet? | Swimsuits We Can’t Wait to Wear!}

detail_1031_mhs-ibiscoralonepiece-1

MARA HOFFMAN IBIS CORAL ONE PIECE – $200.00

SHAKUHACHI BUSTIER BIKINI -$200.00

MARA HOFFMAN KING TUT LADDER BIKINI – $200.00

MARA HOFFMAN IBIS CORAL COCOON – $340.00

It’s probably safe to say, I’m in love with Mara Hoffman. These ultra cool 70s inspired suits have never made me wish it was summer, as much as I do now. The funny thing is I’ve never been one to spend on swimsuits either, as I haven’t see many swimsuit designs that impressed me.  However, these patterns, high waisted designs and super sexy cuts, have me forking over the doe without a blink!

{What to Wear | New Years Eve}

New Years Eve is one of those nights – you want to dress up to make it special, but you don’t want to go over the top.  Now, what’s over the top? These days, less is more.  The key is to sparkle just a tab, with a touch of cool, without turning into a Christmas ornament.

I recently returned something at Bloomingdale’s, yes returned, but ended up drooling over the All Saints shop they have inside the women’s section. The line is oh-so-cool, different, but offers a ton of sexy sequin pieces that are toned down or cut in a way that make it much more than just another sequined dress. I highly recommend you check them out. If you are not a dress type of girl, a sequined stiletto or gold embellished clutch adds enough jazz to an ordinary outfit for a night out on the town.

My favorite look of the night is the sequined blazer with jean shorts, always a classic look, but the sequins add a new modern twist, perfect for New Years.

Everyone goes to the staple, the black dress or simple dress with shimmer. The better way to go this season is a little less traditional and maybe a little bit less dressy, but with a touch of your own personality to the outfit.

{Unique LA}

Last weekend I walked the Unique LA show, a show curated to bring shoppers and alternative to the mall founded by Sonja Rasula. A few highlights included Homako, a sweet jewelry line, Sire’s Crown, a optical company with really cool frames and a jewelry line made out of Drum Cymbols – pretty sweet! Unique LA supports local designers and connects shoppers to fantastic lines they may not otherwise know about, such as Futher, a soap, lotion and candles company with killer packaging. From a marketing design mind, I do appreciate a great packaging design, regardless of the product! I will buy, for the design of the bottle and hopefully the product is good too!

Further moved from New York. Their products take vegetable oil from local restaurants like Tiato, Mozza and Tavern, turn it into biodiesel fuel for our cars, then take the byproduct, purify it, and reuse to make our soap, lotion and candles. How cool! Check out more at furtherproducts.com.

{ New Online Boutique Offers Fashion + High Style + Moderate Price | Collectivehabit.com }

Collective Habit is a new online store launching November 7th out of San Diego. I love the concept as the owner explains she couldn’t afford what she LOVED so she ended up buying mediocure things to fill her wardrobe. Can you relate? Uh, yeah! This online shop is supposed to solve that problem with amazing stylish pieces all ranging from $25 to 200. And, even better, they are offering Style Wax Poetic readers 15% for the first week – yes, please!

The promo code for 15% off the first week (Nov. 7 -14th) is STYLEWAX15

Collective Habit Owner Kimberly Lim

I had the chance to interview Kimberly Lim, the owner of Collective Habbit, and find out a little more about the store, along with a few sneak peak of her favorite pieces.

SWP: Why did you start the store?
First off I should say that I totally agree with you that fashion is an artistic expression… I think it’s one of the most expressive art forms out there. I never had a burning desire to start a business, but almost a year ago I was sitting in my closet full of clothing racks and shoes, and I realized that I was totally uninspired by what I was looking at. I felt like the lack of options here in SD and the fact that I couldn’t afford a lot of what I liked online was getting in the way of me expressing myself to the fullest –instead of investing in pieces I really loved, over the years I had built a collection that was just mediocre—and I found that to be totally unacceptable. I knew there were probably a thousand other girls who were in the same predicament … so I decided to do my own thing.

Matiko Madison Wedge Boot $220

SWP: What’s your background before this?
I studied product development at FIDM and my BA is in literature and writing. I have a background in e-commerce, fashion writing, graphic design, and styling. So the e-commerce thing was a natural move, once I made up my mind to open a store.

SWP: Where did you shop before this?
At the mothership, LF. And I love me some Zara and good basics from American Apparel. I also did my share of online shopping… there are some really great sites out there, but the problem with a lot of online stores is that either I can’t afford the pieces or the quality is crap.

Belle Style Triangle Tassle Necklace $89

SWP: What’s your personal style?
It’s sophisticated and comfortable with an edge. I really love oversized pieces that are simple, beautiful, and well-made. I hate fuss and messy layers –for me getting dressed involves pulling on a big chunky knit and something skinny on the bottom, and adding super high heels or wedges. And I can’t say enough about menswear influences –button-downs, oxfords, rolled trousers… I love a great blazer.

SWP: What are some of the things that excite you about Fall/Winter Trends.
I am soo excited for fall (always am, even though it hardly ever gets cold enough in SD to really pile on the heavier fabrics), there’s some really good stuff coming our way this season. I’m particularly excited about all the 70s glam—big fuzzy fur/faux jackets and vests, all the rich leather and sequins…

SWP: What are some of your favorite pieces coming into the store for the launch?
We have lots of amazing jewelry pieces and killer shoes for the launch, and some really great apparel too. Some of my favorite pieces are the Keiko Dress from Kucoon (nice feature, by the way!), the Madison wedge boot and the Sina oxford from Matiko, a beautiful, classic gray poncho from Yoon, and practically every piece of jewelry from Belle Style (some vintage, totally glam).

Yoon Osiris Poncho $185

SWP: Fav designers?
There are a lot of great contemporary designers coming out of Asia and Australia these days, but in terms of the well-known designers: Karl Lagerfeld (who can do no wrong and I love what he does for Chanel each season), Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang, Phoebe Philo’s Chloe, Elie Saab, Yigal Azrouël, Haider Ackermann… and I love me some Rachel Zoe.

{Fashion Trends Carried To Home Design}

I pretty much lust over anything tribal, boho or 70s glam. Truly inspired by the patterns, muted tons, and the mellow vibe that carries when wearing tribal – almost a hippie chicness but with a powerful strength of peace. While I might be getting carried away with passion from the excitement of tribal, I’m really wanting to share with you these amazing finds from Anthropologie Home. I am LOVE home design almost as much as fashion, however the pieces tend to be a taaaaad more expensive than what we can find at Forever 21. So I stay in the $200 range for new pieces, flea markets and even many times find great things at Marshals.

Anthropologie got me though. It usually does and I know that I’ll be thinking of these beautiful pieces for months to come.

Since I can’t afford this at the moment at $2,698…

I’m really considering buying of these to add some color and design to my place for around $200 each..

{Fall Lingerie | Undrest Offers Lace, Style and A Vintage Feel

I never realized lingerie actually had different seasons and collections. I guess I never really paid attention and I don’t think the men have either. But I realized there are certain lingerie pieces that should be tucked away for next Fall, along with those coats and boots.

UNDREST, for example, does Fall lingerie perfectly offering Victorian style pieces with lace, and muted color-ways, that parrellel the changing color of the leaves and the moody Fall skies.

After viewing the collection, I can totally images wearing it after the holiday festivities with a hot toddys at home with your honey. See below a few images from U<strong>NDREST’s Lingerie Fall/Winter 2012 Lookbook. Such a sweet and sexy line!

See more about and where to but at Undrest.com.
