I didn’t make it to Coachella, but I made it to Palm Springs for the weekend and I couldn’t help to feel the Coachella vibe! Loving the new mint color that’s appearing everywhere and I’ve added it to my wardrobe with a lovely maxi dress from Forever 21. From brunch to pool, this hippie chic vibe was easy to pull off and comfortable throughout the day. Hope you’re weekend was relaxing and full of sun, friends and love. XO SWP

PTM - Odylene 2013 Fall Showcase - Grimes Megamix
If you didn’t attend the Odylene 2013 Fall/Winter showcase at LA Fashion Council we’re recreating it for you. A fan since the beginning of their launch, each season I look forward to what Odylene will bring us next. This season, designer Stephanie Lampkin explores the intersection between intergalactic gypsy and modern day goodness, which makes the following Grimes mix by Primetime Music a perfect fit. Take a listen and view Lampinks’ take on our relationship with he universe (via Racked LA) with flowy maxi dresses, skirts, long button-downs and even some harem pants back in the mix. XO Kristen

{SWP Goes Wedding For The Day}

a soolip wedding

As you know, I don’t cover weddings, but I was invited to an event that was too good to pass up. A Soolip Wedding, the highly anticipated modern bridal annual event, returned to Los Angeles at the prestigious Bel Air Bay Club last Sunday. The vision of gracious-living guru Wanda Wen, A Soolip Wedding has established notoriety as one of the wedding industry’s most prolific events. I was very excited to attend and see the beauty brought together from so many different vendors all surrounding the theme, “Crystal Showers, Eternal Flowers.”

One of the highlight as included a fashion show from America’s most established jeweler, Black, Starr & Frost, and a fashion showing of avant-garde bridal couture line, St. Pucchi, food and small bites from Good Gracious, and really beautiful, artifully designed cakes from Charm City Cakes. The event was also sponsored by Town & Country Weddings.

I’m not close to getting married (at least I don’t think) but know exactly what I need if I need to do so. More event coverage to come and if you are getting married, make sure to check out Soolip Weddings for beautiful stationary and wedding suggestions.

XOXO, SWP

{Old School Music | Remembering Big Pun}

imgres

I stumbled up this song on the radio, yes I still listen to the radio, and loved the beat. Talented latin hip-hop superstar heavyweight MC Big Punisher, Christopher Lee Rios, (November 10, 1971 – February 7, 2000), better known by his stage name Big Pun, emerged from the underground rap scene in The Bronx in the late 1990s ad was ranked one of the 50 Greatest MCs of our time. MTV2 ranked him #11 on its list of the “22 Greatest MCs – a true talent!

Donell Jones came big on the since in the late 90s with “U Know What’s Up,” “Where I Wanna Be,” and his cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Knocks Me Off My Feet”. Together, they created a great beat. Big Pun will be missed, but we can still enjoy what he left for us.

Check out a free download HERE and happy Music Mondays!

{New Year’s Resolutions}

Untitled-5

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2013…
The year has come to a close and I wanted to take a moment to share some of my New Year’s resolutions for 2013. Have you thought about what you’d like to accomplish in 2013? I recently heard something on a documentary called, ‘HAPPY,’ that made me think. They said 40% of someone’s happiness has to do with the leisurely activities they do in their free time. It’s so important for us as people to constantly challenge ourselves to get out of our routine and create newness in our lives. New activities, new hobbies and find new ways to be our best selves. Following are the ways I will be striving in 2013 to be the best Kristen, so that I can only better those around me. Blessings to you all for a wonderful, joyous, 2013.

1. Get creative! The times when I am being creative are probably some of my happiest times. I am striving in 2013 to make better collages, take more creative pictures, and create more beauty through fashion for you all to enjoy.
2. More and more photos - photography is innate in me and I haven’t fully yet explored this outlet of creativity as much as I could. This year I will be taking many many more photos.
3. Dance… I used to dance in college. I plan to take it back up again. This year I’d like to explore more modern dance.
4. Give…Think outside of myself as much as possible and strive to make those close to me happier in any way that I can.
5. More Service - this is a general statement, but super important resolution. I hope to volunteer more, create more opportunities for my clients, and help our clients do even more of the amazing work that they do. See Raven + Lily and Sseko Designs to get an idea of what I’m referring to.
6. Push the fashion limits and create beauty and poetry without words, but with clothes, colors and texture. I.E., Style Wax Poetic .
7. Celebrate – the beautiful, tiny, treasures in life.
8. Practice Gratitude – working with the clients that we do, I have the opportunity to learn about some of the most beautiful cultures in the world. They have next to nothing, yet they want to give you everything, still. We are blessed. We have toilets, clothes, inner and outer beauty, family and friends. I have the opportunity to share my heart and passion with you through Style Wax Poetic. I am grateful, and we must not ever lost that feeling in 2013!
9. Meditate more – I am always my best self when I take time out of my date to mediate and pray. This can be more spiritual reasons or nonspiritual reasons. I think it can be wonderful for everyone, whatever their interests are. More inner peace for all, we all deserve it.
10. Live colorfully! I have a lot of simple colors on my wardrobe, but I love COLOR. This year, I’m going to be more BOLD with my wardrobe. Watch and see..
11. More interviews – In 2013, I plan to dive deeper and find out more behind the scenes of designers, musicians, and photographers. Yay!
12. Rebrand – I will be rebraning very very soon. This will be like a fresh new start of a relationship. From me, to you, with love.

13. Love more openly, to all and to the one who deserves it most.

13. Enjoy the fabulous, beauty, of clothes, creativity and all the things that Style Wax Poetic has brought into my life.

Live, love, enjoy and be fashionable!

{Sundown in the Park | From Day to Night}

An easy transition from day to night is key and will make your life much easier when traveling or a long day with the boy. I wanted to show how easy a look could go from day to night by switching out flats to heels, adding more accessories and dressing up the look with a jacket.  I posted a couple days ago wearing a day time outfit (which is definitely more appropriate for the park), but wanted to show how easy it was to switch the outfit into a nighttime look.  What do you think? You could also pair this with a boyfriend blazer, heels and a clutch.
