What’s on your wish list?

I usually don’t consider myself a rocker, but after viewing Crash & Burn’s collection, I might just be. The Los Angeles based line began in 2004, driven with a distinctive aesthetic; reflecting a love for Rock & Roll, tattoos and Art Nouveau. You’ll find a creative edge, a LA vibe and comfort with this line. What I love about this collection in particular, is they’ve stepped a little further into their feminine side.

LOVING the Robinson Dress (pictured last) with a low v-slit and feminine draped arms. Their high waisted tie-dye pants, paired with a shimmer black top, offers sexiness and glam. I’ve never considered myself a total rocker, but these pieces pair ‘rocker’ & ‘feminity” perfectly!

What a lovely evening with the friends and family of Kucoon! I have fallen for the line, and I know you will too.

Andrea Spratt, the founder and designer of Kucoon, designs an elegant, whimsical line styled with layering, fringe, wraps and hoodies! Who doesn’t love a hoodie for Winter?! Her line is moody, but casual. Complicated, but just enough. The materials are so soft you could wear them to bed – just do it, I won’t tell –  jumpsuits perfect for lounging in.

The piece of the night was the Hooded Shawl, aka “Fringe Hood”, with fringe, layering and length (pictured below.) This piece can be worn three different ways, wrapped loosely with length, double wrapped hung in the front or with the fringe scarf thrown to the side. I love the lines’ simplicity using mulitple shades of greys and stripes and keeping patterns at a minimum.  Tons of maxis this season – with a touch of detail around the waist or neckline. Check out more here:

The Fringe Hood

Greys, Stripes and Maxis. Diggin' it all.

Other than shopping through the $20/$30/$40 dollar bins (score?!), the rest of the evening consisted of really good peeps, good music and yummy food and drinks.

I came across a really cool jewelry line, too! Valou Tri Caps – for men and women. Her designs are super rad, but her story is even better.  You may have seen these similar designs lately, but let me tell you, Valou was the first to design this awesome concept! Hopefully, she’ll land her patent soon. Originally from France, Valou explained to us in her ‘ever-so-cool’ accent, that she’s designing some rings for Lady Gaga (pictured below). Think layers and layers of 3 diamonds – so Lady Gaga, so cool. She mentioned a couple rappers she’s doing some designs for too!

A fun evening with great designs – who could ask for more?  I’m heading back soon to purchase a few pieces I’m coveting. Check out more at Kucoon.

Designer Anh’s collection “From Water To Ice” represents a very personal journey. Water, represents her family escape of the Vietnam war just in time for Anh’s birth -taking place on a ship out at sea. She was abducted for one year at the age of 8 which as anyone can imagine were difficult times, which represents “Ice”. Anh’s personal influences on the collection brings an artistic approach as colors and fabrics represent emotions and history.

Rough ruffles and sequence combined with darkness illustrates the focus of overcoming hardship and embracing strength. Knee high black boots combined with erotic, gothic, jagged styles and cuts paint the picture of fashion that tells a story of the past and how time reveals the resilillent ones. The painted tears on the faces of the models explores the emotions that the designer is feeling. Embrace in the dark to find the light. Yes, There is light in this collection and it is surrounded by darkness! L’Une meaning “The One” finds light. One light in a pool of darkness! ~Heather Mosby

Gabby Applegate, fashion designer who began her career as a designer at the ripe age of 18 for the line Witches with Lauren Alexander (designer of LnA), has broken off for her first solo season. Holiday is looking fantastic – think the most sophisticated hipster. Her designs come from the belief of women being strong and sexy which is apparent in her holiday collection. You’ll see a touch of edge with cut outs and leather, a lot of vibrance and youth with cropped blouses and satin textures, yet pulling it together with an overall sophistication. Designer Gabby Applegate talks LA, her favorite spots, and the season’s inspiration below:

Style Wax Poetic: Where does your inspiration come from?
Gabby: I find my inspiration from many different things. Music is a huge inspiration and can really define what style I’m designing. People I love, also is a big inspiration. When everyone is happy and there isn’t any confrontation, my mind is clear and I’m am able to be very creative.

Style Wax Poetic: Where do you currently reside?

Gabby: I live in West Hollywood

Style Wax Poetic: Divulge some of your LA favorites:
Gabby: I love my balcony at the apt. I can see everything from the Palisades beach to Downtown. My favorite place besides my apt is the Chateau. I lived there for a bit and I wish I could always live there.

Style Wax Poetic: What is this collection representative of?
Gabby: I got a lot of my inspiration from art this season. I’m in love with Sam Haskins “Cowboy Kate”. His iconic photographs are my favorite. I also have been reading and watching a lot on Banksy.

Style Wax Poetic: Three words to describe your line?
Gabby:Dark, Subtle, Elegant

Walking through the many isles through PROJECT Trade show, it’s very easy to get overwhelmed with the many designers, many booths, you find yourself questioning where to spend your time and who to visit! But then, there are a few rare booths that draw you in, eyes pierced, legs shuffling, totally capitivated. For me, it’s new designer love that I get a total high from. One who comes out of no where with amazing product, a fantastic marketing and business sense and a smile. That’s how it went down with myself and UNDREST. They are LA based line, only a few years old, and killing it. They do swimwear mainly, but also really cute RTW pieces and lounge wear. It has cute vintage feel, beach inspired, floral cottons, and mesh overlay pieces. Their flagship store is on Robertson and newly opened, Venice California. See for yourself why I’m loving these…
