Dublin native James Vincent McMorrow announces his first North American headline tour that kicks off September 8 in Philadelphia and currently runs through September 24 in Los Angeles.
His music has compared to Bon Iver and Ray Lamontagne.
James’s critically acclaimed debut album, Early In The Morning, has brought him to the U.S. and his music has already appeared in TV shows. After this tour, I would expect him to gain a huge recognition and following here in the U.S.
Kieran Hebden (born 1980, Putney, London, England, United Kingdom) is a post-rock and electronic musician who goes by the name Four Tet.. His sound and melodies incorporate elements of hip hop, electronica, techno, jazz, and folk music. Jon Hopkins, a London-based producer and musician on the rise, does a beautiful ambient mix of Four Tet’s song. Angel Echoes (Jon Hopkins remix) by Four Tet h
Caribou, Daniel Victor Snaith,a composer, musician and recording artist, takes it up a notch bringing in synthesizers, drums with a faster beat. Both amazing, depending on your mood. You decide!
This is why I love LA: last Thursday, after our day at work we popped over to Amoeba Records to see a free show with Theophilus London. Maybe it was because we were two feet away from the stage, maybe it was the style, but something made me fall for this guy. And trust me, you will too.
London has found a perfect balance of fashion, music and dance, reaching a wide range audience. The cool kids definitely made an appearance, but so did the real kids. He brought two kids on stage that knew ever word by heart.
London is pop enough for those that don’t like hard rap, sweet enough for the top 40 crowd and hot enough for all the fashionistas out there. His dance moves should have another post entirely, so fluid!
He entered the stage wearing his signature hipster sunglasses, skinny jeans paired with hightops and topped it off with some gold bling hanging around his neck, of course. His style is unique, fashion forward but not selling out. We’re impressed!
This tune, from Berlin, is a beautiful ambient tune by Apparat (Sascha Ring), a German electronic muscian who is one of the owners of Shitkatapult records. Starting out with dance floor-oriented techno, he later started to create ambient music and more recently became “more interested in designing sounds than beats”. Sascha is currently on tour with Moderat. Check www.myspace.com/moderat for tourdates!
Aviator is one of the better dance tracks I’ve heard in a while – I am literally tapping my knee to the beat while writing this. It’s not just one track he has going for them, all of their other tracks prove to be almost, or just as good. JB as my good friend calls him, aka Jason Bentley, has been blasting this all over the airways in the past couple weeks. Photek is British born producer/DJ Rupert Parkes, who now resides in Los Angeles, and “Aviator” is the title track off his most recent EP.
Photek came from the Drum and Bass scene, but recently streaming more into a wider range of a electronic styles.

I discovered this band walking through a Santa Monica based boutique. They are genius. I fell even more in love with them when I saw the two behind the scenes – two sisters, rocking some unique yet beautiful style. Kudos for their theatrical performance, to the gorgeous tunes and the classical voices that brighten your mood.
Check them out HERE on facebook. I can’t wait to see them live one day.

Another Seattle folk band you say? Well, this one may change your mind in the thinking that’s the last thing we need. With songs about love and finding his soul mate, most women will easily fall for these sweet cries and catchy melodies. The men out there, well they too will have a hard time saying anything bad. Surprisingly their songs are already playing at Starbucks, I suppose the Seattle connection can do wonders for a band, but also playing a few live shows here in Los Angeles for anyone local fans. They are playing a free show tonight at It’s A School Night, HERE for more details, and also will be performing live tomorrow morning on KCRW.
I’ve heard this song for months now & one thing was clear — it was Style Wax Poetic’s new sunshine happy song. I never knew the name of the artist who sang it until today. Naked And Famous , a rock band from New Zealand featured for today’s for Music Mondays, have released their first studio album, Passive Me, Aggressive You, on September 6, 2010. The song above, Young Blood, made them the first New Zealand band is three years to have a single debuted at number one.
Have a listen to more of their music here: http://www.myspace.com/thenakedandfamous. If you like Passion Pit, you will like Naked and Famous!
As you’ve probably heard, there was some sad news as Brooklyn’s popular, eclectic rockers TV on the Radio, had tragedy last Wednesday as bassist Gerard Smith passed away from lung cancer. TV On The Radio formed in 2001 in Brooklyn, New York. Their music music spans many genres, from post-punk to electro and free jazz to soul music.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the band.
Electronic textures, intimate revelations – that’s the fundamental formula of Natalie Walker’s evocative, elemental, bluntly emotional new album, Spark (Dorado Records).
