Style Wax Poetic Monthly | August 2010

The month of August is at an end and it’s the first day of September, wow. Life flies by, and so do the posts on blogs. The disadvantage of reading from a blog, unlike reading from a magazine, is that great information can be here and gone in a few days.  I’m starting a ‘Monthly Round Up’ post which breaks down everything I covered in August.

Music Mondays featured Ra Ra Riot, Animal Collective, School of Seven Bells, and Blonde Redhead. As usual, most Music Mondays feature a free MP3 download.

Summer Style With Friends featured Jen Elias, Fashion Editor of SJ Helium, Flor De Maria, PR specialist and blogger at Flor De Maria Fashion and Payton McClure, Fashion Designer living in New York City.

Santa Monica Place Private Luncheon @ Xino For PS Arts

I have to admit, one of the greatest things about being a fashion blogger, is having the chance to review some amazing fashion related places and events before the public does, networking with other press members & fashion bloggers & of course there are always the press bags (yeah, those are pretty nice too;)  I ran into Kelsi Smith who is as lovely in person as she comes across in her wonderful LA Fashion blog, Dedicated Follower. You must have a look.  What a gem and her friends were great as well.   Point being, it’s nice to see the ‘return on investment’ for fashion bloggers these days, because most of us are doing this for absolutely nothing!

I was invited to this beautiful luncheon on Thursday, a day before Santa Monica Place officially opened.  I’m excited for what’s ahead for Santa Monica Place. There is nothing like shoping and lounging, with beautiful tunes and a ocean breeze on your face.

Thank  you Lindsay, from Preface PR, for putting together a beautiful fashionable event @ Xino! Many more to come I’m sure for everyone, @ the beautiful Santa Monica Place which opens today! xx

Check out more shopping and events here @ Santa Monica Place.

Bloomingdales Preview Santa Monica – Opening August 6th

Live Manequin Show

Styist Area
with Raisable Dressing Rooms

The new Bloomingdales in Santa Monica for the New Santa Monica Place, sits at the end of the successful and busy 3rd Street Promanade in Santa Moinca.  Taking over the building what used to be Macy’s, Creative VP of Bloomingdales Jack Hruska explained to us how they’ve completely gutted out what was there and re-designed the interior layout and aesthtic.

They achieved their goal of being more than just an average department store and has modeled their new Santa Monica store similar boutique feel as their Soho store. Recycled materials taken from a carnival and re-stored, a live maniquin show rotating from the ceiling on the second floor and a styling event area like I’ve never seen before, are just a few ways they’ve outdid themselves to create a unique experience for their guests. The exposed wood trim on the celing offers a beach modern theme, while the beams decorated with chalk offers a playful feel from season to season.

They are aiming to bring unique events to the area as well, that target the LA costumer but also the beach laid back fashionista. This Saturday they are having a ‘Cutting Event’ where the designer will cut your t-shirt in the shape
and style that you like! Sounds pretty cool to me.
