It’s almost Halloween, which means it’s time to start thinking about what you want to be this year. DIY halloween costumes may seem stressful, but with early planning, a brilliant idea and a good shopping destination, you’ll be on your way to a fun, creative stress-free Halloween. Follow these simple steps.

First Step – Research: don’t leave the house without a solid plan of what, or who, you want to be. This doesn’t mean you have to necessarily stick to it, but it will make the process easier. Search the internet high and low for fun costume ideas – come with a solid plan and a backup idea just in case. After seeing these beautiful images, I landed on a Mime. I found this darling image and decided that was the one!

Second Step - Visit Your Local Savers + Value Village: they have a mix of new and used clothing pieces with a decent size Halloween costume area. I enjoyed it much more than a traditional, crowded Halloween store. No matter your budget for your DIY Halloween costume, you’ll be able to find something there. I found it so cute that their employees are dressing up everyday until Halloween too, so you’ll get some great ideas just by visiting their store. The day I went in the employees were all farmers.

Third Step – Find Your Selections: Being a mime was surprisingly pretty simple. For this look, you’ll need: black and white clothing, black suspenders, gloves (black or white) and face paint. I purchased each of those from Savers for a very reasonable price! The polka dot collar was made using tool, a needle and thread from your local yardage town store.

Fourth Step – Create Your Look: I love pulling random pieces into a well thought-out look, but I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without an image on hand to reference. Take your time with the makeup and if time, do one test trial before the big day.
