I love LA. It’s a really huge city with so much to do and it’s not always what some may think of it. If you live in LA you probably know the ins-and-outs but there’s still a lot of hidden gems that are new or still to be discovered. This is one things I find magical about LA.
I’ve always been someone who likes to stay “in the know” about what’s happening in my city. It excites me to see gorgeous new coffee shops or restaurants. I love trying out new places and feel the need to be hip to what’s good in my area. Last weekend, I found my new GEM, Filifera, and I’m obsessed. It’s by far, my favorite new spot for sunset rooftop drinks in LA.
Filifera sits 23-stories up on top of a gorgeous residence by the Proper Hotel Group, which has some of the most well designed, cool properties in San Francisco, DTLA, Austin and more. The cocktail and lounge is a shared space between their residences and the public, but the cool part about it is no one really knows about it…..yet. They’re not trying to do a ton of promotion to get people there, but rather are looking for some organic, word-of-mouth, like-minded people to gradually grow their customer base. Their clientele includes the residences, so they have to maintain a certain “vibe” I guess you could say.
What makes this place special is the views, for one, the design, of course, and also the feel of it. Be prepared for a very cool ambiance and views like you’ve never seen of LA.
Everything from the drink, the menu, the decor and food has to be signed off by Kelly Wearstler, so you already know it’s going to be good.
And the vibe is quite literally, home-y, as a lot of the guests live downstairs. They’re chilling by the pool with friends or they’re having work meetings. And they’re mostly LA folks – professional athletes, stylists, well known DJS…you know, it’s a vibe.
The drinks are also, as you can imagine, pretty incredible. They have well thought out, craft cocktails to delight your eyes and palate. They food is limited but there’s enough to snack on until you head out to your next destination for dinner. They also have a vegan option for cocktails, which I never thought of, but a lot of drinks have egg whites in them for froth, so a vegan option is pretty cool!
I started with a glass of wine, which was also delish, but the really sweet bar manager let us try their cocktails, because well, they’re the type of drinks to be tasted.
We tried the:
- PASSION FRUIT FIZZ 14 – Maker’s Mark Bourbon, Passion Fruit, Aqua Faba, Lemon, Pastis, Wild Fennel Flower
- PALOMA 14 – Los Altos Blanco Tequila, Graperuit, Lime, More Grapefruit Served Tall Over Crushed Ice
- HIBISCUS GIN & TONIC 13 – Beefeater Gin, Tonic Water, Hibiscus Flowers, Served à la España Over Ice
For food we nibbled on the:
- CHARCUTERIE BOARD 15 – Artisanal Meat & Cheese Selection, Figs, Honey, Charcoal Crackers and added the OLIVES WITH MARCONA ALMONDS.
It’s perfect for a date, for sure, as you can snuggle up on a lounge couch and watch the sunset to chill-out sounds or a good way to unwind with girlfriends. I brought my friend from Always February, Nadia, who runs a super cute LA based clothing line. I seriously can’t WAIT to go back.
